The judges at the Bucharest Court decided, on Friday, that the preventive arrest measure that was taken against the brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate should be extended by another 30 days. In fact, the same decision was made in the case of the former policewoman and the other woman arrested in the millionaires case.

Gândul presents extracts from the Report with the proposal to extend the measure of preventive arrest, the prosecutors saying that Andrew and Tristan Tate „can exercise psychological control over the victims”.

Moreover, during the investigations, a „pattern” was established according to which the Tate brothers acted, as they also had the ability to identify other potential victims in order to then take advantage of their vulnerability.

The particularly high dangerousness of the facts for which the defendants are being investigated stems from:

  • Their practiced ability to identify potential victims of human trafficking;
  • Their ability to take advantage of the victims’ vulnerability, given their young age, the lack of support and attention from family members and society, the existence of previous acts of violence that caused unidentified and untreated trauma, including sexual abuse;
  • The capacity and effort of the defendants to exercise permanent psychological control over the victims, including by resorting to constant acts of violence, precisely in order to defeat the resistance of the victims and turn them into slaves”, it is mentioned in the Report with the proposal to extend the preventive arrest measure.

The first warrants were issued by judges for Andrew and Tristan Tate, as well as for Georgiana Naghel, and Luana Alexandra Radu, on December 30, 2022, for 30 days. Practically, January 28 would be the last day of pretrial detention on the first term. Until then, the Bucharest Court of Appeal must also judge the appeals of the Tate brothers and the two Romanian women to the extension of the arrest warrants.

”The Tate brothers could flee Romania if they were released from custody”

Prosecutors also say that brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate could flee Romania if they were released from custody.

In context, they use statements from one of the two eccentric millionaires, who claims that he has accounts in 19 countries of the world and could fly using several passports.

”If I’m wrong and England wants me in jail, I can fly on a Nigerian or American or English or Polish or Estonian passport. I have bank accounts in 19 countries”, the report states.

The arguments and evidence brought by the DIICOT prosecutors convinced the Bucharest Court to extend the preventive arrest warrants of the Tate brothers for another 30 days.
